Earlier in the week we thought that pot roast sounded good for Sunday dinner. We usually get one or two from my parents because they consistently have a side of beef in their freezer, but we haven't seen them for awhile. So while at Costco we picked ourselves up a roast. Ryan makes a mean pot roast, I never even liked pot roast until I had his mom's which is the same way that he makes it. This tasty method requires keeping the roast boiling in liquid on the stove top for several hours. Which we have done numerous times without a problem, well today things went in a different direction. When we left for church Ryan said he was going to run home between meetings to check on the meat, well he got caught up and did not make it home. We came speeding home from church so that our meat would not be ruined. This speeding was in vain, when I got out of the car I could smell the smoke in the garage. When I walked in the house you could see the smoke, not only in the kitchen, throughout the entire house. Thankfully it warmed up a little today and we can stand to have all of the windows open, but it still reeks, and chances are we are all going to reek for who knows how long. Clothes, dishes, everything smells like smoke. The amazing part though, the majority of the roast was still edible, and we still ate it for dinner, it was a little dry but nothing a little A1 couldn't mask. I really hope things start airing out, but the rooms without ventilation, closets etc. still smell pretty bad. I really hope clothes will air out without having to wash everything. I guess I am just grateful that we still had food to eat and that our house didn't burn down. Good thing we were at church :)
p.s. Don't let this fairly optimistic blogging tone fool you, I was pretty mad when I got home. In my defense I had just spent the last hour and 45 minutes practicing for the primary program trying to keep 9 six year olds quiet on the stand, rocking back and forth in the folding chairs. I already had a headache and the smoke didn't help, but life goes on right.

Dance, Dance, Dance
Ellie started dance this week. We went to the studio on Tuesday to see if they had any spots available they had room in the Wednesday class, and told her she could start tomorrow. So I told Ellie we would go home and see if we had some ballet shoes, some that Bailey had grown out of. I looked everywhere and we didn't have any in Ellie's size, I figure I must have just borrowed someone's when Bailey was that size. I figured I would just get some that week and she could start the next week. Wednesday morning after I dropped Bay off at the bus, Ellie said "I thought I going to dance today." I said we would need to get her some shoes and she could start next week. She did not like this idea, she said we could go to the store right now and get some. I felt bad that she has been having to wait and wait for everything, preschool, Bailey to get home etc. So I agreed, I threw clothes on and put her in the dance outfit of her choice and hopped in the car. We had exactly 40 minutes before class started. I had found the Danskin brand for Bailey and Wal-Mart so I figured I would try there, if they didn't have them I was going to be in trouble because of the time issues. We run into Wal-Mart look all over the shoes, finally find a lady who tells me they don't sell them anymore. Lovely. Then I remember that they sell them at the studio, I figured they were going to be like 25 bucks (they use to be 11.99 at Wal-Mart) but I didn't care at that point, I tried to save money and it didn't work out. We get to the studio and a girl helps us find Ellie's size, and she is so incredibly excited about the new shoes she can hardly speak she just keeps looking at them and then runs into her class. The girls says she is new and has no idea how much the cost. Great! While she goes to check, Ryan calls I tell him where I am and what I am doing, he of course says Grrreeeeeeaaaaatttttt, when I tell him I have no idea how much they are going to be. After I hang up the girl comes out with the bill all written up and tells me the total $13.78. Yep, 13 bucks. Seriously all of the time, trouble and stress could have been saved if I would have just asked they studio when I was in there on Tues. what they charge for shoes!!! I have to learn everything the hard way that is just the way to goes for me, but I didn't care, Ellie was so happy, she loved class and the shoes. When class was over she asked me if she got to keep the shoes. She hasn't taken them off since Wed. she calls them her balley's. Knowing how happy they made her I wouldn't have cared if they were more money, but 13 bucks makes it all even sweeter.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY RYAN !!
Today is Ryan's birthday. I think he has had a pretty good day. We have been fighting off a little parasite. I think we have had that cryptosporidium, the parasite everyone has been getting from pools, waterparks etc. We are pretty sure the girls had a it a few weeks ago and then they passed it along to us. But Ryan has by far fared the worst. Needless to say we are going to wait a few days to go out to dinner so we can enjoy it. We did still have cake and ice cream and the girls had a lot of fun celebrating daddy's birthday. He wanted banana cake and while I ran upstairs for a few minutes Ellie decided she needed a piece, hence the lovely picture of the attacked cake. At least I hadn't frosted it yet.

First Soccer Game
Today was Bailey's very first soccer game. She was back and forth about even playing to begin with, her main reason for not wanting to was, "what if we don't win?" So of course I chime in with my motherly wisdom about how life is not always about winning.............yada yada. Anyway she decided to play and was pretty excited about it, a lot of kids in our neighborhood are playing this year so they all kick the ball around together. Practices had been going well and I thought game day would go off without a hitch, I had the video ready. Bailey decided to teach Ryan and I a little humility and how to keep our tempers in check. As we are getting out of the car she starts crying which eventually turns into wailing repeating over and over, I'm scared, wail wail, I'm scared. Scared of what I say, no response just more wailing. Wailing turns into screaming when the coach asks if shes ready to go in. Then she says she has to go potty, I say, no potties here, hold it and get out there, a parent then informs me that there port-a -potties, YEAH! In our jaunt to the bathroom I pull out my no messing around mom voice, it went something like this... "listen little lady, I paid 100 dollars for you to play soccer (I had to pay the dang late fee), and unless you want to pay me back every cent I suggest to get out there and play...... you have two choices, you can get out there and play, or we can go home and you can do jobs until you have earned enough money to pay me back. Those jobs include wiping baseboards, cleaning out closets etc. " I know it was a little harsh, but hey it worked :) She finally went into the game and she did great and loved it. It took her a couple of minutes but she got right in there and kicked the ball and almost scored on the last play of the game, she was scared she was going to kick the goalie in the face so she didn't really follow it in, but she did great. She was a completely different girl walking off the field than she was walking on. I think/hope we are in for a good season, she had a lot of fun and has the desire to run fast and score. I am hoping next week to get some good video. So on the way home, I once again I got to give her another of my classic lines, "you need to learn that mom is always right." She said, "sometimes mom is right, sometimes she's not." I guess I agree with that.

Labor Day
I forgot my camera over Labor Day. But we had a lot of fun.....just no pictures to prove it. My sister in law has some so when I get them from her, I will add some and write more on this post. We went to Burley for the weekend and had a little reunion with all of Ryan's siblings, and some of his aunts and uncles. It was so fun to see them, and so nice of them to travel so far just to be with us. The girls LOVED playing with their cousins, I barley saw them for 3 days. The weekend was filled with lots of jet skiing, water skiing, body surfing, tube riding (oh my, the sky launch is so much fun), card making, and golfing (3 rounds). The golf is the reason I forgot my camera, Friday morning Ryan's dad made a tee time and it was hell, fire and damnation to get out of here to make the tee time, hence I was not completely organized and the camera got left behind. Anyway, we had a blast and I have bruises to prove it (my sis in law is crazy on the jet ski and the sky launch). Hopefully I can add some photos soon.
